[NOTE: Note: Files may vary depending on which version of the emulator you might have, but the same standards apply in most cases.]
4. Now create two folders; one named “ROMS” and the other named “CACHE”, and place them inside the “CPS2PSP” folder. You should now have the following folder structure:
Firmware 1.0
1.0 CPS2PSP
1.0 CPS2PSPROMS
1.0 CPS2PSPCACHE
Firmware 1.5
1.5 CPS2PSP
1.5 CPS2PSPROMS

5. Now connect your ‘Sony PlayStation Portable’ to your computer, and set it to ‘USB Mode’ by going to ‘Settings’ in the PlayStation Portable’s XMB and selecting ‘USB Connection’.
6. Navigate your way to ‘X:PSPGAME’ and insert the “CPS2PSP” folder(s) inside the “GAME” folder. Your PlayStation Portable’s drive should now look like this:

X:PSPGAMECPS2PSP%EBOO T.PBP*
(Do not disconnect your Sony PlayStation Portable!)
1.2 ROM Conversion
In order for ‘MOST’ Capcom Play System 2 ROMs to work with this emulator they must be passed through the converter in order to get their ‘*_cache.zip’!
(*=ROM zip name)
1. Open the folder named “Converter” and run the program ‘ROMCNV.EXE’ or 'ROMCNV_CPS2.EXE'
[NOTE: WHEN YOU EXECUTE THIS PROGRAM, YOU WILL BE TOLD WHICH VERSION YOU HAVE RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE COMMAND PROMPT WINDOW. IF YOU ARE USING ANYTHING FROM 1~6 PLEASE CONTIUNE READING, IF YOU ARE USING VERSION 7 PLEASE READ 'ROM Conversion Using ROM Converter ver. 7' WHICH IS NUMBER *1.2.1 AND IS LOCATED BELOW THIS NUMBER. IF YOU ARE USING ROM CONVERTER ver. 8 PLEASE READ 'ROM Conversion Using ROM Converter ver. 8+' WHICH IS NUMBER **1.2.2 AND IS LOCATED RIGHT BELOW NUMBER *1.2.1]
2. A ‘Command Prompt’ window should have loaded saying “Please Select ROM file.” and a navigation window saying “Select zipped ROM file.” Locate your zipped ROM file in this window and click open.
3. Please wait while the converter creates the ‘*_cache.zip’ file for your ROM.
(This should take about 1 minute or so depending on ROM size.)
[NOTE: Use a complete ROM set, or the converter will give you an error.]
4. Once the conversion process is complete press ‘Enter’ to exit. Your ‘*_chache.zip’ should now be in a folder named “CACHE” which is located inside the “Converter” folder.
*1.2.1 ROM Conversion Using ROM Converter ver. 7
In order for ‘MOST’ Capcom Play System 2 ROMs to work with this emulator they must be passed through the converter in order to get their ‘*_cache.zip’!
(*=ROM zip name)
1. Open the folder named “Converter” and run the program ‘ROMCNV.EXE’
Your ‘*_cache.zip’ should now be in a folder named “CACHE” which is located inside the “Converter” folder.
Informative Read:
In NJ’s latest version of CPS2PSP, he has added the ability for they emulator to read the files inside the ‘*_cache.zip’, not from a ‘.zip’ folder, but rather from a regular folder/directory, this greatly improved speed and practically made all Capcom Play System 2 games virtually run at full speed. This is why there is a new method of converting ROM sets.
5. Once you have your ‘*_cache.zip’, you will now need to unzip all the files within the compressed folder, this should be logical in terms of using the Windows Operating System, before you unzip the files make sure to create a folder on your desktop with the same name as your ‘*_cache.zip’ compressed folder but leave the extension ‘.zip’ out of the name.
6. Now unzip your ‘*_cache.zip’ compressed folder to the folder you have just created with the same name as your “cache” file.
**1.2.2 ROM Conversion Using ROM Converter ver. 8+
In order for ‘MOST’ Capcom Play System 2 ROMs to work with this emulator they must be passed through the converter in order to get their ‘*.cache’!
(*=ROM zip name)
1. Open the folder named “Converter” and run the program ‘ROMCNV_CPS2.EXE’
2. A ‘Command Prompt’ window should have loaded saying “Please Select ROM file.” and a navigation window saying “Select zipped ROM file.” Locate your zipped ROM file in this window and click open.
3. Please wait while the converter creates the ‘*.cache’ file for your ROM.
(This should take about less than 1 minute or so depending on ROM size.)
[NOTE: Use a complete ROM set, or the converter will give you an error.]
4. Once the conversion process is complete press ‘Enter’ to exit. Your ‘*.cache’ file should now be in a folder named “CACHE” which is located inside the “Converter” folder.
1.3 ROM Installation

2. In the “X:PSPGAMECPS2PSP ” folder you will see the two folders you created: “ROMS” & “CACHE”. Place your ROM file inside the “ROMS” folder, and then place the cache file you got from the converter inside the “CACHE” folder.
*1.3.1 ROM Installation ROM Converter ver. 7
1. Now navigate yourself to your ‘Sony PlayStation Portable’s’ drive, and then to the “X:PSPGAMECPS2PSP ” folder.
2. In the “X:PSPGAMECPS2PSP ” folder you will see the two folders you created: “ROMS” & “CACHE”. Place your ROM file inside the “ROMS” folder.
3. Now in the “CACHE’ folder you will drag the folder you created and unzipped all the data to on to your desktop named ‘*_cache’ into the CACHE folder on your Memory Stick. This should now give you nearly flawless perfect speed.
**1.3.2 ROM Installation ROM Converter ver. 8+
3. Now in the “CACHE’ folder you will drag the file named ‘*.cache’ that the ROM Converter has given you and is located in the ‘CACHE’ folder inside the ‘CONVERTER’ folder into the CACHE folder on your Memory Stick. This should now give you nearly flawless perfect speed.
[NOTE: Certain games may not run unless you have 2 different ‘region’ versions of it, or a specific ‘region’ version of it. A good example of this would be “Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heros.” If you can find a complete (US) ROM set, then the game might work, but if you have the complete (Euro) version of it alone it will not work, in cases like these you will need both a complete ROM set (Euro) and a non-complete (US) ROM set, the non-complete ROM sets do not have to be converted for ‘cache’. Read the list below to find out what games will need 2 ROM files.]
- Dual Region Files List:
Marvel Super Heros (Euro 951024)
Marvel Super Heros Vs. Street Fighter (Euro 970625)
Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heros (Euro 980112)
Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers Revenge (Japan 970929)
[NOTE: This list is not being updated anymore, there has already been a method found in which you do not need a 2nd Region ROM set, for more information please visit:
